Hello Friends!!!
I am into teaching for the past 20 years and at present working as the Assistant Professor and Head, Department of History, Queen Mary's College (A), Mylapore, Chennai.

This video will stress on the history of the freedom movement with special reference to the role played by women in Tamil Nadu. Indian women’s participation in the freedom struggle began as early as 1817 and a deeper dive into the history of Tamil Nadu brings us to Velu Nachiyar, the Queen of the Kingdom of Sivagangai. She was the first queen in Indian history to have waged a successful war against the British.

The role of Tamil Nadu women in the freedom struggle had become the epic story of the self-less dynamic, talented and patriotic women. And, they played an active role in the Swadeshi, Non Co-operation, Civil Disobedience and Quit India Movements and their contributions are truly remarkable.

As India celebrates 74 years of independence today, I am extremely happy and proud to honour the lives and exemplary work of those women by paying this visual tribute and registering a “Big Salute” in History.

It would be helpful for the school and college students while they pursue their studies in History, for the aspirants of various competitive examinations and for the general public.

Kindly share and subscribe my channel to be a part of “Saluting Women in History".
