In this second episode of 8 part series, Savukku Shankar brings back to our memories, what happened in July 1983 in Sri Lanka against Tamil speaking population. The government, police and army stood aside and watched the Sinhalese people going on a rampage for one week. This one week changed the History of Sri Lanka and started the 30 year issue between Sinhalese and Tamils.
Savakku Shankar, who is an Indian journalist, founder and writer of the Tamil news website- Savakku- started in 2010. He now popularly known for his views, content and commentary on politics and social issues of India and Tamil Nadu.

1983 திருநெல்வேலியில் ஒரு ராணுவ convoy (convoy என்பது பல ராணுவ வாகனங்கள் தொடராக பயணித்து ரோந்து நடவடிக்கையில் ஈடுபடும்) மீது நடத்தப்பட்டது. இதன் பின்னர் நடத்தபட்ட கலவரம் முற்றுமுழுதாக சிங்கள அரசின் அனுசரணையுடன் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக சிங்களவர்கள் பெரும்பான்மையாக வாழ்ந்த பகுதிகளில் இருந்து 1 லட்சத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட தமிழர்கள் வடக்கு அல்லது யாழ்ப்பாணம் நோக்கி விரட்டி அடிக்கப்பட்டனர், சொத்துக்கள் சூறையாடப்பட்டது .பலர் இந்தியாவுக்கு அகதிகளாக குடிபெயர்ந்தனர்.
யாழ் நகர் பொதுசன நூலக எரிப்பும் அரச அனுசரணையுடன் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இது ஆசியாவின் மிகப்பெரிய நூலகங்களில் ஒன்று.

In the final chapter, “Why did India fail?”, Dixit admits that he “overestimated the sincerity and the political will of Jayewardene to come to a genuine compromise with the Tamils with the help of the Government of India”. Yes I remember the riots, I was only 4 but remember looking out the window and seeing burning buildings. Even at that age I remember how scared we were. Our neighbours Sinhalese people helped a lot of tamil people that time. It was horrible.
